2mm SS316 cables become visually invisible from a few feet away — your skyline stays yours.
Satellite, Ahmedabad
Satellite has been west Ahmedabad's settled address since Hasmukh Patel's Shyamal Row Houses went up by the junction that now carries their name, with ISRO's Space Applications Centre across Satellite Road since 1972. Now the same lanes are changing height — twenty-year-old societies are redeveloping into twelve-floor towers — and three generations often share one new flat. Invisible grills are how Satellite adds safety without bolting iron bars onto a forty-year reputation.

Living in Satellite
Satellite sits between the 132 Feet Ring Road and SG Highway, spread across the Gandhigram, Bodakdev and Jodhpur wards. Satellite Road is its spine, running west from Shivranjani Cross Roads past the ISRO Space Applications Centre at Jodhpur Tekra to Jodhpur Char Rasta and the Prernatirth Derasar Road; Shyamal Cross Roads on the Ring Road is the junction that stitches it to Prahladnagar, Nehrunagar and Vastrapur. There is no metro station inside Satellite — the BRTS does the work, with stops at Shivranjani, Jodhpur Cross Roads, Star Bazaar and both ISKCON junctions — and Gulmohar Park, Iscon Mega Mall and Ahmedabad One are all within a couple of kilometres.
The locality grew organically, and the streetscape shows it. The Shyamal Row Houses, designed by architect Hasmukh Patel at the end of the 1970s, and the sectored bungalows of Satyagrah Chhavani opposite the ISRO campus set the tone: tree-lined, owner-occupied, quietly prosperous. Around them came the 1990s and 2000s four-floor walk-ups — still the single most common building type here — and the Vishwanath Sharanam series along the 100 Feet Anand Nagar Road.
The new layer is vertical and premium. Ratnaakar Pristine's five twelve-floor towers opposite Star Bazaar and Aarohi Avinya on the ISRO Colony Road are handing over on the Prernatirth Derasar Road belt; Trinay Anagh is rising near Satellite Road; The Verity reaches seventeen floors and Sierra twenty-three. Redevelopment drives much of it. The municipal corporation cleared 35 redevelopment schemes for twenty-year-old west-Ahmedabad societies in December 2021 — Vivekanand Society in Jodhpur among them — and Excel Vivekanand Arise's four twelve-floor towers on Jodhpur Gam Road are the result. Long-time ground-floor families are moving into twelfth-floor flats a few hundred metres from their old plot, at ₹7,500 to ₹8,500 per square foot for resale and far more for new luxury launches.
That mix produces two very different safety jobs in one pin code. Row houses and bungalows ask for terrace-edge runs, staircase-void cables and first-floor window spans — protecting grandchildren who visit every weekend. The towers ask for full balcony systems that pass elevation scrutiny in societies where appearance is non-negotiable and a redevelopment NOC has only just been signed. Two-millimetre SS316 cables handle both without changing how the building reads from the street.
Satellite's own local nuisance is birds. The grain-seller opposite the AUDA garden at Anand Nagar has fed a pigeon colony for over a decade, and the flats around it live with the droppings; older walk-ups across the locality fight nesting every season. Black netting — the default answer — sags within a year and darkens the balcony. Tensioned cables deny pigeons the railing perch they want, and a slim mesh layer can sit behind them where the pressure is heavy, invisibly and permanently.
Age adds an engineering step. On 1980s parapets and 1990s RCC chhajjas, the crew checks the structure during the free visit and anchors into structural members, never loose plaster; where a railing section is too tired to hold tension, the installer says so before quoting rather than fitting something that fails later. New towers get the standard spec: anodised aluminium track, 2 mm SS316 cables at two-inch spacing, each rated to roughly 250 kg of horizontal force, load-tested on site.
Verified partner crews in the A1 Grills network quote a flat ₹95 per square foot installed anywhere in Satellite — row house, walk-up or redeveloped tower. Quotes are free and written, you are matched with up to 2 verified installers, and every install carries the installer's 10-year written warranty on cables, track and corrosion.
From Shivranjani to Jodhpur Char Rasta, the Shyamal 100-foot stretch and the Prernatirth Derasar Road belt — all of Satellite is covered.

What Ahmedabad customers say
FAQ · Satellite
A flat ₹95 per square foot installed, whether the address is a Shyamal row house or a new Ratnaakar-class tower on the Prernatirth Derasar Road. SS316 cables, anodised track, fittings and labour are all inside that number. A typical 3 BHK balcony of around 35 square feet works out near ₹3,300; a row-house terrace edge of 60 square feet lands around ₹5,700. Quotes are free and written, from up to 2 matched installers.
Yes — Satellite is full of exactly this work. Terrace edges, staircase voids, first-floor windows and balcony openings in the Shyamal row houses and the Satyagrah Chhavani bungalows all take cable systems; the layout differs from a tower balcony but the material and the flat ₹95 per square foot installed rate stay identical. The site visit maps each opening before anything is quoted, and openable sections are added where you want a terrace edge to fold away.
Almost always, yes. The crew checks the parapet and frame condition during the free site visit — anchoring points go into structural members, not loose plaster, and older concrete is assessed before drilling. Satellite's 1990s walk-ups generally take the system without trouble. If a section genuinely cannot hold tension safely, the installer says so on the spot rather than fitting something that fails later.
Book the site visit as soon as you have a possession date — ideally the install happens after painting and before move-in, so the balcony is finished by the time the family arrives. Redeveloped societies in Satellite usually sign off a uniform grill spec for the whole tower; installers share the same one-page spec sheet your committee can approve once, which keeps every later flat's install a formality.
For most flats, yes. The tensioned cables at two-inch spacing deny pigeons the railing perch and landing room they want, and for floors with heavy nesting pressure — the lanes around the AUDA garden at Anand Nagar are the known hotspot — a slim mesh layer can sit behind the cables. It is far neater than draped black netting, with none of the sag or the annual replacement, and both options are quoted in writing on the visit.
Yes. Each 2 mm SS316 cable is rated to roughly 250 kg of horizontal force, and cables sit two inches apart on tensioned anodised track — too narrow to squeeze through and too strong to push out. The crew load-tests the finished install in front of you before leaving. In Satellite's three-generation households this is the test grandparents ask to watch, and it is the reason welded bars and nets are being replaced rather than repaired.
Site visits across Satellite usually happen within 24 hours. Installers near you in west Ahmedabad cover the Shivranjani–Shyamal–Jodhpur stretch daily, measure every opening in one visit, and a single balcony or terrace edge typically installs in one working day with same-day cleanup. Societies with fixed work hours are scheduled around, and the load test is done before the crew leaves.
Three local reasons. Appearance: redeveloped towers and 1980s row-house lanes both care about the elevation, and 2 mm cables read as glass from the street. Maintenance: mild steel needs repainting after every 800 mm monsoon and traps dust in each joint, while nylon-coated SS316 wipes clean and never rusts — the installer's 10-year written warranty covers corrosion. Light and air: cables keep the breeze and the view a bar grill takes away.
