Nikol, Ahmedabad

Invisible Grill in Nikol, Ahmedabad.
Safety without the iron bars.

Nikol grew from a diamond-polishing and mill-worker village into east Ahmedabad's biggest first-home belt in under two decades. Seven-floor lift blocks fill the lanes off Nikol Gam Road, ten- and eleven-floor towers line Bhakti Circle Road and Odhav Road, and Bhakti Enclave's sixteen floors mark the new high point. Most families here are living above the third floor for the first time — and the balcony is the first thing they want made safe.

Living in Nikol

Why Nikol homes choose invisible grills

Nikol sits on Ahmedabad's eastern fringe, wedged between the Naroda and Odhav industrial estates with the Sardar Patel Ring Road a kilometre or two away. The old village grew around Nikol Lake — an octagonal reservoir with a temple on its edge — and was folded into the municipal corporation in 2007. There is no metro station inside Nikol; the Blue Line's Vastral Gam, Nirant Cross Road and Vastral stations sit about five kilometres south. Daily life orbits Bhakti, Gangotri and Amarjavan circles and the D-Mart stretch at Raspan.

The housing comes in three tiers. At the base are the affordable societies that made Nikol's name — public EWS and LIG blocks under the state housing schemes, and private 200-to-466-unit schemes like Setu Pushkar Heights behind Sardar Mall and the Savaliya Krish series near the Ring Road, selling from around ₹2,100 a square foot. The middle is the 2 and 3 BHK belt — Nilkanth Shyam Vihar's 140 homes opposite Gangotri Bungalows, Bhaktikunj Heritage's eleven floors on Odhav Road, Khodiyar Shivalay Gold, Avadh Lake View — priced ₹28 to 65 lakh. At the top is a surprising 4 BHK pocket around Bhakti and Amarjavan circles: Grand Pushkar's 112 homes on the Ring Road, Rajvi Royal's 72 four-bedroom flats, Dev Aavkar Homes, Swastik The Crest, Dhanani Raj Mahal — crore-plus homes that completed between 2024 and 2026.

The buyer is the story. Apartment rates average about ₹3,950 a square foot — up more than 80 percent in ten years — which is still the cheapest big residential belt in the city. Young nuclear families trade up from denser inner-east pockets like Bapunagar and Thakkarbapa Nagar, buy a 600-to-700-square-foot 2 BHK with one balcony, and find themselves eight floors up with a toddler for the first time in their family's history. The Saurashtra Patel community hall on Raspan–Bhakti Circle Road says a lot about who is moving in. Balcony safety is usually the first purchase after possession — before the sofa, in many homes.

And possession keeps coming. More than thirty new launches and roughly eighteen under-construction projects are on the books, with handovers running from Bilipatra Homes on Bhakti Circle Road in late 2026 through Setu Pushkar Heights in 2028 and Sat Swarit Sky and Royal Rudraksha toward 2029. AMC has also listed Nikol Lake for redevelopment as a community space and eco-reserve. For existing residents that means several more years of construction dust landing on east-facing balconies.

Dust is Nikol's defining condition. Odhav GIDC is under three kilometres away, Kathwada about two, and Nava Nikol has its own estates along the Odhav–Nikol Ring Road. Mild-steel grills here rust and flake within four or five monsoons and trap grime in every joint and weld. Nylon-coated SS316 cables are the opposite proposition — nothing to corrode, nothing for soot to lodge in, a wet-cloth wipe brings them back in minutes — and they keep the cross-ventilation that makes an east Ahmedabad summer bearable in a 2 BHK.

The install itself is straightforward in this stock. Seven-to-eleven-floor blocks mean everything is fitted from inside the balcony — no scaffolding, no exterior access, no argument with the society office. Two-millimetre cables sit two inches apart on anodised aluminium track, tensioned and load-tested on site. Older blocks around Nikol Gam Road mostly want window retrofits where the original welded grilles have rusted through; the newer towers want full balcony spans. Either way a standard job finishes in one working day.

Verified partner crews in the A1 Grills network quote a flat ₹95 per square foot installed across Nikol — the same rate as west Ahmedabad, with no east-side shortcut on material. Cables, track, fittings and labour are inside that figure. Quotes are free and written, you are matched with up to 2 verified installers, and every job carries the installer's 10-year written warranty.

Crews cover all of Nikol — Nikol Gam Road, Bhakti Circle Road, Odhav Road, Raspan and the New Nikol belt toward SP Ring Road.

FAQ · Nikol

Nikol homeowner questions, answered

What is the invisible grill price in Nikol?

Flat ₹95 per square foot installed — the same transparent rate across Ahmedabad, with no east-side markup. A typical 2 BHK balcony of about 25 square feet comes to roughly ₹2,400; a 3 BHK balcony of 35 square feet about ₹3,300; a 4-by-4-foot window around ₹1,500. That covers SS316 marine-grade cables, anodised aluminium track, fittings and labour. Locks, gates and mesh are listed separately on the written quote, which is free, and you are matched with up to 2 verified installers.

Is an invisible grill worth it on a budget first home?

Over the life of the flat, yes. A welded mild-steel grill is cheaper on day one but needs repainting after every second monsoon in Nikol's dust, rusts at the welds within a few years, and blocks the breeze a 600-square-foot 2 BHK depends on. Cables cost more upfront, then nothing — no paint, no rust, no replacement. For a family staying ten years, which is most Nikol buyers, it is the cheaper grill.

How quickly can someone visit my flat in Nikol?

Usually within 24 hours of your call. The network matches you with verified installers near you in east Ahmedabad, so travel time is never the bottleneck. The visit takes about half an hour — every opening is measured, the cable and mesh options are explained, and a written quote follows the same day. A single balcony installs in one working day; a full flat with window spans typically takes two.

Will the cables survive Ring Road and GIDC dust?

That is exactly what SS316 is for. The cables are marine-grade stainless steel with a nylon coating, so Odhav- and Kathwada-side soot and exhaust grime wipe off with a wet cloth — there are no joints, welds or bars to trap dirt, and nothing to rust. Residents who replaced a rusted welded grill with cables tend to notice the difference most in the monsoon, when the old grill used to streak the parapet. The installer's 10-year written warranty covers corrosion failure outright.

Is it really safe for a toddler eight floors up?

Yes. Each 2 mm SS316 cable holds around 250 kg of horizontal force, cables are spaced two inches apart — far too narrow for a child to squeeze through — and they are tensioned on anodised track with no footholds to climb. The crew load-tests the finished span in front of you before leaving, and the installer's 10-year structural warranty is given in writing. Unlike a net, nothing sags or loosens with time.

Do crews handle the new towers around Bhakti Circle?

Constantly — the ten- and eleven-floor blocks on Bhakti Circle Road and Odhav Road and the sixteen floors of Bhakti Enclave are routine Nikol work, including buildings still taking possession. Everything is fitted from inside the balcony, so there is no scaffolding and no exterior access; crews handle gate passes, work within society hours and clean up the same day. If you are between possession and move-in, an empty balcony is the fastest install of all.

Will a 300-flat society committee object?

Rarely — cables are the safety option committees prefer. From the ground the 2 mm cables are effectively invisible, so a big society's elevation stays uniform even when only some flats install. Installers share a spec sheet you can forward to the committee, and once the first flat in a tower goes in the neighbours usually follow within the month — one site visit can cover several flats in the same block.

What maintenance will the grill need?

Almost none. Wipe the cables with a wet cloth when the dust builds up, and that is the whole routine — no repainting, no rust treatment, no annual replacement the way nylon nets need. The nylon coating protects the steel, the anodised track does not pit, and the tension is checked at handover and holds for years. The installer's 10-year written warranty covers cables, track and corrosion.
