Portals rank Amin Marg among the ten most liveable localities in the city, and the live listings are telling — every one is a four-bedroom flat or a residential plot, priced from two to three and a half crore, posted by the owners themselves.

The residents are premium owner-occupiers and upgraders, many of them second-generation on the same street, with schools — Nirmala Convent, New Era, V.J. Modi — and hospitals within a short walk. There is a modest entry layer of one-bedroom rentals in the older Kotecha Nagar blocks. What the market shares is a low tolerance for anything that cheapens the look of a home, which is why the old ornamental grills on the bungalow balconies have stayed as long as they have.

The local condition is junction traffic. Amin Marg is a connector, Kotecha Chowk and the Astron Chowk railway underbridge are pinch points, and the one thing residents mark the road down for is traffic and parking. Vehicle soot and fine road dust sit on every ledge, and the high winds of May and June and the post-monsoon weeks drive it into every joint of a painted grill.
